Vitamin E Supplementation Benefits Memory Function

A study published in the Archives of Neurology studied the effect of antioxidant supplementation (vitamin E, vitamin C, beta-carotene, and flavonoids) in almost 5,400 individuals over 55y in the prevention of dementia and Alzheimers' disease. Individuals with the highest vitamin E intakes had a 25% reduced risk of developing dementia over the 9.6y study.

In the US, over 90% of Americans are not consuming the recommended amount of vitamin E. Vitamin E intakes are even more inadequate for low income  than higher income individuals with 6.0mg, 6.9mg, and 7.6mg/d for adults over 2y with incomes of <$25,000/y, $25-$75,000/y, and >$75,000/y according to the What We Eat in America, 2001-02, NHANES.
